Cantare Foods Receives Highest Honor for Mascarpone at American Cheese Society Competition
Held in Louisville, Kentucky, the annual conference remains one of the most unique events of its kind on the planet. The annual Judging and Competition is the cheesemakers’ version of The Oscars! Entries also were up to 749 from last year. In all, there were 23 main competition categories with several sub-categories. The entries came from the United States and Canada
Unlike other cheese competitions, where cheeses are judged only on their technical merits, the American Cheese Society’s goal is to give positive recognition to those cheeses that are of the highest quality is their aesthetic evaluation (i.e. flavor, aroma, and texture), as well as their technical evaluation. As a result, the highest quality cheeses are those that the society feels deserve the recognition of an American Cheese Society award, based on a minimum number of points awarded (totaling 100 points possible) for First, Second or Third Place.
All cheeses submitted for judging were showcased and tasted at the gala Festival of Cheese held Saturday night at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel. In addition, Louisville chefs were on hand to make dishes featuring American cheese, while California wine was poured throughout the evening.
Cantare Foods received a first place for our Mascarpone in the Fresh Unripened Cheese category. Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese received a second place while Blue Ridge Dairy Company took third place.
